There are many misconceptions about the quantity and types of foods that make up a healthy eating style though. Most people trying to lose weight on a 'diet' actually under-eat, and so although they lose weight at first, they are actually lowering their metabolic rate in the process. This in turn brings the weight loss to a stop and they hit a plateau. The typical reaction to this is to further decrease the calories, but this puts your body into starvation mode, losing lean tissue and increasing body fat. This produces what I call the 'skinny-fat' look, all too popular with today's female celebrities - thin, but with cellulite and no muscle tone! |
